Natural Treatment for Thrush in Babies
Thrush in babies can be severe if not treated at the right time. Often the disease is not cured fully or possibly affects again if the intake of antifungal medication is discontinued. A baby’s digestive system is quite delicate and hence instead of Acidophilus it is suggested to try Lactobacillus Bifidus for infants aged under a year. Grapefruit seed extract
Grapefruit seed extract is a widely known anti-microbial substance produced using the pulp and seeds of grapefruit. It is alternately known as grapefruit seed oil. It is an effective natural treatment for thrush in babies. A mixture of five drops of grapefruit extract and half cup of cooled down boiled water is prepared. The solution can be split into two quantities to be used to wash off baby’s mouth soon after breastfeeding and clean baby’s rear while replacing the diaper. Cotton swab can be used to clean baby with the solution. It is advised to utilize this mixture three or four times a day so that new mixture can be prepared the next day. A word of caution is that the grapefruit seed oil should not be used in a concentrated form for babies.
Tea tree oil
Tea tree oil contains antiviral, antiseptic and antibacterial qualities, which makes it a strong and widely recognized natural treatment for thrush in babies. Five drops of tea tree oil is mixed with half cup of cooled down boiled water. This diluted mixture is used to clean the baby’s rear to cure the diaper rash due to thrush. A precautionary suggestion is that the concentrated form of tea tree oil should not be used as it can be irksome.
Baking soda
Make a solution with baking soda and water. A teaspoon amount of baking soda and one cup of water is used for that. The interior of baby’s cheeks, tongue and gums can be cleaned with this solution with a cotton swab after every meal. This acts as an effective natural treatment for thrush in babies. This solution can be prepared daily. A small portion of the solution can be used to clean baby’s rear for diaper rash due to thrush or two tablespoons of baking soda can be mixed with a little amount of water in a bathing tub. Wash the baby with the solution by dipping his/her rear in the water which can be relaxing.
